Teen Depression - How to Understand Your Teenager
Posted by Sylvia Dickens on 17th March 2009
Teen depression is devastating. I know, because it shadowed much of my life, starting with my early teens. Depression devastates your self esteem and can lead to so many other problems including anxiety and attempts at self destruction.
You are not alone if you just “don’t get” your teenager. It’s a time of life when their bodies are in turmoil. If getting accepted by peers isn’t tough enough, your teen is working overtime to adjust to the biological and emotional changes that are taking places as part of his or her natural growth process.
I’ve written a book based on my own experiences with teen depression and how it affected me. From my work with the Canadian Mental Health Association, I learned a great deal about depression, so I have incorporated all the information that will help you to understand what your teen is going through.
Whether you have a teen or you work with teens, this book will help you. It is written for the layperson in as simple terms as possible. I am not a therapist or psychiatrist or even a medical researcher. That’s why you will find this information easy to read and understand. There is no fancy medical jargon to deal with.
