3 Tips On How To Begin Dealing with Anxiety?

Posted by Sylvia on 24th March 2009

The root of anxiety often has an obvious source. Dealing with anxiety means finding that root cause and addressing it directly rather than trying to run from your attacks. Running will make them worse, whereas confronting them will put the power back in your hands.

Here are three tips on how to begin dealing with anxiety.

1. The instant you feel anxiety coming on, take steps to combat it. Trying to ignore it won’t make it go away anytime soon. Do expect the anxiety to stop, but it will happen faster if you are prepared to act. Without your permission, your subconscious mind will build on your fears below your level of awareness. This is what makes anxiety attacks such a surprising event.

2. Take a quick evaluation of what just happened and see if you can identify the thought or action that triggered the anxiety attack. If you do this every time, eventually you will start to see a pattern and get clues into the specific things that trigger your anxiety. It might be a fleeting thought about how vulnerable you feel. For instance, if you don’t feel safe in an elevator, your body’s natural response is to panic to save itself. It doesn’t necessarily have to be anything huge or highly significant. Some of the slightest things can cause anxiety, such as concern that you spent $300 on a new shirt when you know you can’t really afford it.

3. Tackle the event head on and put it into perspective. Ask yourself exactly what is so bad about your “careless spending”. Is it worth worrying about at this point? What’s the point of feeling guilty? Didn’t you deserve that little treat? Keep in mind that if you become too regretful, you can just return the shirt.

If you need additional help, read my review one of the top anxiety and panic relief products that I highly recommend: The Linden Method. Charles Linden, a long-time anxiety suffer who created this program, provides all the tools you need including one-on-one counselling for a full year if you need it.

When it comes to dealing with anxiety, you don’t have to go it alone. Charles Linden can help.

Beware of Using Natural Herbs for Anxiety Relief

Posted by Sylvia on 5th February 2009

Are you one of those anxiety sufferers who is sick of the drugs and their side effects, or just don’t like the idea of taking them? If you are considering using herbs instead, beware.

You might be thinking like so many others that if it’s “natural” it must be safe, after all, herbs are used in cooking for heaven’s sake.

What you might not realize is that many herbal remedies just don’t work, at least not for anxiety. You also might not know that herbs can be dangerous, especially when taken in conjunction with other medications that you might be taking.

Always do your research on a reputable site before deciding to use natural herbs for anxiety relief. Make sure you know which ones are the most effective and proven over the years. Check official sites like the National Institute of Health to see what they have to say about herbs and their uses.

There are other natural anxiety relief remedies you can try that do not entail taking anything orally. The Linden Method is an excellent product that contains everything you need - a handy manual on this unique anxiety treatment how to apply it - audios including one to relax you - and one-on-one help from trained counsellers for an entire year, should you need it.

Take a look at The Linden Method and discover how it can bring you lasting anxiety relief.

Use Hypnosis as an Easy Anxiety Relief Remedy

Posted by Sylvia on 5th February 2009

That’s right. Hypnosis can give you anxiety relief and you don’t even need a therapist. Self hypnosis is a way to relax your mind and focus on something other than your anxiety.

The trick is to know what things make you anxious. For some people, this is easy, but for others their anxiety is more vague - an odd sensation that creeps over them for no apparent reason. I know what that feels like. Mine were like that.

But there were times when I could identify the source. Often, it was because I was stressed about something - fearful, even. Being unsure of how I would deal with the situation, I became panic-stricken instead. Then, one day my therapist introduced me to hypnosis.

He ran me through it a few times and recommended a book on self hypnosis. I’d give you its name, but I no longer have it, but any self hypnosis book will tell you how to do it.

It’s simply a matter of sitting back, getting into a relaxed state in a location where you will not be interrupted but you feel perfectly safe and comfortable.

Focus your attention on some wonderful vision - perhaps it’s your own garden or your favorite travel destination. Pay attention to what you see - the beauty, the positive energy, the calmness. Smell the air, feel the sand under your feet and the sun on your face. Listen to the wind blowing through the trees.

Next, imagine you are doing the one thing that made you fearful, but see yourself going through it with confidence and success.

Practice this exercise whenever you feel stressed or when anxiety begins to creep in. Before long, you will be able to control your feelings by simply taking a break, relaxing and going into your vision.

For more help overcoming your anxiety permanently, read my The Linden Method review, one of the most successful anxiety relief treatments available. It comes complete with audios and an manual you can review as needed.

Make Journaling Your Personal Anxiety Disorder Treatment

Posted by Sylvia on 14th December 2008

Keeping a journal will help you to overcome your anxiety attacks. Writing in it every day provides personal therapy sessions where you are able to get your worst fears out of your head. Once they are expressed on paper, you will feel relieved almost immediately – at least a little bit.

Over time, your anxiety attacks will become less severe, especially if you combine journal writing with talk therapy. It doesn’t have to be a doctor, but a therapist can provide professional feedback on your condition. Friends and family who you trust can be extremely supportive.

Hiding your anxiety from them is probably not going to help you. In fact, it can make you worse because in your mind, you have convinced yourself that your anxiety disorder, which is a form of mental illness, will not be acceptable to them. It’s something you keep to yourself.

That is old world thinking. It used to be that way back in the 50s and even the 60s, but today more people are recognizing anxiety in themselves and in others. They are becoming much more accepting of the condition. You might be surprised how many people you speak to can relate to some of the feelings you are experiencing.

If you’re reluctant to speak out, start with your journal. Each day, write down anything that comes to mind, especially your fears and things that bother you in your everyday life. If you’re having problems at work or at home, writing them down will make it easier for you to cope with them. It will help you come up with ideas and solutions once you can see them on paper.

And in a lot of cases, you will realize that they aren’t nearly as serious as you thought. Writing things down tends to do that – bring things into their proper perspective.

Your journal entries can be about anything that will get you writing:

  • Your dreams – the wonderful (and disturbing) dreams you’ve been having
  • Passing thoughts – whether it’s things you need to get done or wish others would do
  • Meditations – or prayers you like to use to feed your spiritual side
  • Your successes – This is great for building your self esteem and make you feel good
  • Your goals – where you’d like to be in your life next week, next month or in 5 years
  • Shopping lists including things you’d love to have if you could spare the money
  • Family photos or pictures of your beautiful garden or last vacation
  • Doodling will get your hand moving similar to writing
  • Your favorite songs or those ditties that stick in your head
  • poems – Limericks can be fun – you don’t even have to be good at it.
  • self-portraits – if you can draw, good. If not, write about your life, who you are including likes and dislikes, special skills, how you’ve helped others, etc.
  • plans – jot down things you’d like to get done and how you’ll achieve them.

This is by no means a comprehensive list. It’s just to get you started. Be sure to make it fun. Focusing all your writing on your anxiety attacks is not good, but mixing them with pleasant topics will ease your beliefs about your anxiety disorder.

Some day, you can turn all those notes into a book about how you coped, survived and recovered from your anxiety disorder. Why note use your experience to help others? You never know. Maybe that’s why you were given this challenge in your life.

The Linden Method is one of the best anxiety treatment programs around. Read my review here.

Tapping Your Way Out of Stress… and other issues

Posted by Sylvia on 9th November 2008

If you are tired of feeling stressed, fearful and overall negative about life, you just have to see this. It gets amazing results for overcoming these obstacles in your life, and so much more.

I’ve been using this system for a little while now to overcome some persistent issues with depression and hopelessness that I’ve been having, especially lately. A week or so ago, I’ve had some breakthroughs that have really shown me what I need to do to improve my life.

It’s actually quite amazing what I discovered about myself… things I’d buried for years that are now back on the surface where I’ve been able to deal with them more effectively. I didn’t even know I was harboring all these self-destructive thoughts. I now know that they have been holding me back and how to fix it.

Have you ever heard of a method called eTappings or EFT?

Briefly, here’s what it is and what it does.

eTapping involves tapping on specific zones on your body that trigger certain parts of your brain. It’s kind of like pressure points. Have you ever poked yourself in the side and felt a pinprick on the end of your big toe? That’s the idea. It’s all about nerve pathways, except tapping triggers energy pathways to the brain.

While tapping, you repeat certain phrases that get to the root of whatever is blocking you from getting what you want. It might be to recover from stress or overcoming your fears or defeating anger or even to quit smoking.

If you want a better lifestyle or more money, it will work in those areas, too.

Tapping is a way to clear away all your negativity and make room for positive results.

Don’t let the simplicy of this method fool you. It really does work. I know first hand that it does.

You can read more about it here.

It will take you to his main page. To get to the eTappings, click the green box in the middle of the page marked, “eTappings - Check ‘em out”. Scroll farther down the page and watch the Video. It gives you a good idea what to expect.

I’ve struggled with fears and negativity for most of my adult life. They have held me back from what I know I deserve. Brad’s methods have enabled me to begin making changes.

Already, I feel so much better. I’m seeing a significant change in how I think. In fact, in many ways I feel like the whole world just opened up to me.

Go now and check it out. Be amazed.

Best,

Sylvia

5 Ways to Cope With Frustration

Posted by Sylvia on 25th October 2008

Did you know that frustration can lead to depression? Do you know that depression, anger and frustration are linked to anxiety? My therapist explained that to me many years ago. And he was so right.

Today, I can resolve issues that more readily, knowing how each emotion affects the others. Now I can see where my depression and anxiety come from. Frustration.

If you can get a handle on your frustrations, you can reduce your occurrence of anxiety and ease your depression.

Here’s how you can turn your frustrations around in your favor.

1. Forget them.

Too often, when we become angry and frustrated, we tend to harbor those thoughts and feelings. We run them over in our minds, magnifying their impact on us. If something frustrates you, put it behind you and move on. Of course, you’ll need to fix whatever is causing your frustration in the first place, or it will just return. This is where problem solving comes in.

Identify your problems/frustrations. Look for solutions, or seek help if necessary. Don’t let that tape keep running in your head.

2. Don’t irritate them.

Frustrations will worsen if you constantly “pick” at them, like you would an ugly scab. Worrying and pondering over your frustrations will only give them more power. Don’t let your attitude feed your frustrations. In other words, don’t allow yourself bite back.

3. Don’t run from them.

People divorce because they cannot deal with the frustrations they face with their partners. This resolves nothing and can lead to regret when you calm down and regain control. It’s a fact of life that problems will persist and recur. Learning to deal with them at the start will do far more good than letting them simmer. The longer they last, the more frustrated, angry and anxious you will get.

4. Don’t ignore them.

Frustrations aren’t like gems that you can hide away for safekeeping. Frustrations need to be examined, evaluated and addressed so they can be resolved quickly. If you don’t, the negative feelings and emotions will affect your life. The pent-up frustration and anger will blow at an inopportune time and at the wrong people.

5. Make your frustrations work for you.

Frustrations make us strong. They give us resilience and energy to do amazing things. The energy that is born of frustration makes us creative in finding solutions. In the end, they make us better people. If you work with your frustrations rather than against them, you will have better results. You will find the answers. Those answers will help you to deal with problems that arise in the future, as they are sure to do.

Identify your triggers, face your frustrations, and you will reduce your anxiety attacks and relieve your depression.

4 Keys for Natural Anxiety Relief

Posted by Sylvia on 1st August 2008

If you’re like me, you’ve probably asked yourself, “Will these anxiety attacks ever go away?” You don’t want drugs or therapy. You just want a natural anxiety relief that works quickly.

As a long-time anxiety victim, my experience is that anxiety will persist if you are the type of person to worry easily. Panic (anxiety’s counterpart) does become a distant memory, however. The fear that remains is the uneasiness that I experience when I don’t feel “quite right” for some unknown reason. Do you feel like that?

Just the other day when I went to take my dog for his usual 2 km hike through our community, I felt that all-too familiar sense of discomfort. I’d just had a financial setback and expenses I hadn’t expected. Yes. I was worried about my finances.

The attack came out of the blue. Understand that I’m the sort who worries when I have even the slightest sensation of illness, whether it’s a temporary light-headedness from neck strain or an occasional nausea. But I had a good idea this time that it was caused by those recent events.

Anxiety and panic are not all that different. Panic is the extreme version of anxiety. It freezes you in your footsteps. Anxiety, on the other hand, causes more of a hesitation. If it isn’t stopped quickly, it can become panic. That’s why I now know how important it is that I jump on the anxiety from the start.

The other day, I was tempted to turn back because I didn’t know what would happen. Instead, I forged ahead and after about 5 minutes, the anxiety had passed. I continued the walk in complete safety, just like I had all those other weeks and months.

How did I get past the attack using natural anxiety relief?

1. I identified the cause of the anxiety.

Over the years, I’ve learned to be aware of the things in my life that trigger discomfort. I’m now able to quickly identify the source of my latest anxiety attack. Once I know what caused it, it’s easy to reassure myself that this sensation is nothing more than exaggerated worry. Knowing the cause is usually enough to make the anxiety go away.

2. Talked to myself with positive affirmations.

Simple really. I took a quick evaluation and decided that other than this discomfort, I felt fine. My heart was sound. My vision was clear. The doctor repeatedly gives me a clean bill of health. Like, last time when I had a strange breathing issue. I would stop breathing and then gasp for air. He found nothing wrong. By reminding myself of his evaluations, and that I could overcome my financial worries, I was able to push forward. Besides, I felt fine other than the anxiety.

3. I distracted myself from the anxiety.

Because I was out in the neighborhood, it wasn’t all that difficult finding something to distract me. I love nature, and when I came across an interesting plant, I took a moment to investigate and examine its leaf pattern, whether or not it had thorns and how similar it was to bushes that keep sprouting in my own yard.

4. When anxiety hits at home, I listen to music for natural anxiety relief.

This is an excellent way to avoid the silence in your head. Have you experienced that? Your mind wants to fill the quietness with disruption by triggering doubts and fears. Again, because I love nature, I turn on a TV station called “Nature”. It plays sounds of nature including thunderstorms, rainforest downpours, wild animal sounds and bird songs. Mixed in are beautiful music segments that are very relaxing.

Next time you feel an anxiety attack coming on, try drowning out the silence with your radio or TV (very helpful if you suffer de-realization). Reassure yourself out loud that you are just fine and that this will pass safely and quickly. After the attack, jot down what happened (what might have triggered the attack and what you did to overcome it) or talk into a recorder. Keep it with you and review it next time you feel an anxiety attack coming.

Better yet, record your most relaxing music, sound track or TV personality so you can turn it on whenever you need to. Everyone has something that works for them. For me, this is the best natural anxiety relief you can find.
